With the holiday season in full swing, we want to alert our community to a new scam called “brushing” that is circulating across the US.

This scam involves receiving an unexpected gift or item, like rings, bracelets, necklaces, or Bluetooth speakers, in the mail from an unknown sender or a company like Amazon. The package will have your address but no sender information or known retailer label. When you open the package, you might find a QR code that prompts you to scan it to identify the sender. Do not scan the QR code! Scammers can use this step to gain access to your phone and retrieve your personal and financial information.

Help us spread the word to protect our community!
